Where to Find a Book or Journal

Use information from its catalog record to find a book or journal.

Details
The Details record will tell you whether a book is checked out, lost, or has recently been ordered. Journals cannot be checked out.

Location
Check here to find out the area where the book or journal is located. TCTC uses 3 locations: Magazines for journals, magazines, and newspapers; Stacks-Circulating for books that you can check out; and Reference for books that do not circulate.  Magazines are in the SE corner of the Library behind the computer banks.  Stacks-Circulating are the tall shelves.  Reference works are on the short shelves close to the Circulation Desk.

Call Number
Write down the call number. It serves as the "address" of an item in the library. To find out where that call number is in the Library:

  • Look on the end of the shelves for the call number range.
  • Ask at the Circulation Desk or the Reference Desk, or
  • Use the call number location guide or floor maps on the library Web pages.
