Making
the Most of Subject Searching
 |
The
advantage of a subject search is that it
brings all works on a given topic together
under one term. |
 |
Its
disadvantage is that it's hard to know what LCSH term will used
be for a topic. |
| |
A
good strategy is: |
- First, use
your own terms in a Keyword search.
- Scan the
records until you find one that seems right "on target".
- Bring that
record up and click on the Catalog Record tab.
- Look for
the Subject Terms at the bottom of the record.
- These are
the official, assigned subject headings and should give you ideas
about how you might expand or modify your search.
- You can also
click on any of the terms, as these are "live" links.
