Making the Most of Subject Searching

smile The advantage of a subject search is that it brings all works on a given topic together under one term.
frown Its disadvantage is that it's hard to know what LCSH term will used be for a topic.
  A good strategy is:
  1. First, use your own terms in a Keyword search.
  2. Scan the records until you find one that seems right "on target".
  3. Bring that record up and click on the Catalog Record tab.
  4. Look for the Subject Terms at the bottom of the record.
  5. These are the official, assigned subject headings and should give you ideas about how you might expand or modify your search.
  6. You can also click on any of the terms, as these are "live" links.
