Two Types of Databases

2. Subject Databases

  • Is your topic in a particular subject area?

If so, use a subject database. These databases provide coverage of particular academic or scholarly areas, e.g. medicine, law, or social science.  Examples of specialized databases and the kinds of articles they include are:

Business Source Premier Full text for more than 2,300 journals, including more than 1,100 peer-reviewed titles.  Covers all disciplines of business, including marketing, management, MIS, POM, accounting, finance, and economics.
LegalTrac Coverage from 1980 to present.  Includes major law reviews, legal newspapers, bar association journals, and international legal journals.  Titles selected follow criteria established by an advisory committee of the American Association of Law Libraries.
Health Reference Center-Academic Full text articles from 600 + health, nursing, allied health and medical journals, as well as health-related articles from 1500 general interest magazines.  Coverage from 1980.
