More About the Literature Notebooks Online Database

For a number of years, the TCTC Library has maintained a finding guide to thousands of analyses and critical interpretations of commonly-studied literary works contained in its reference sources.  This guide, kept in a set of large notebooks, is officially called Literature in Context, because most of the analyses emphasize the historical and cultural background of the works discussed.

Over time, the guide has come to be known simply as The Literature Notebooks.  This online version, differently formatted, allows you to browse the database either by Title or by Author.  For each entry, you will be given the necessary information (name of reference set, volume & page numbers, and call number) to find the desired item on the shelf in the Reference Section of the Library.  But beyond that, because of our aggressive acquisition of electronic versions of our reference sets, you now have one-click online access to most of the items in the database!

Here, for example, is the Author entry for Chinua Achebe and his widely-studied novel, Things Fall Apart, pointing to nine separate analyses of the work, seven of which are available directly online.  Clicking on the View link will bring up the article just as it appeared in the print version of the reference source, eliminating the need to make a trip to the Pendleton campus to obtain a copy:

The online and print versions of the Literature Notebooks were developed by Norman Hoyle for the Tri-County Technical College Library, which retains all rights to the material contained herein.
