ENG 156
SETTING HEADERS AND FOOTERS |
| |
- Consider the title page as SECTION 1. Section 1 will have no header
or footer, but the title page is counted as i - counted but not numbered.
- Consider the table of contents as SECTION 2. Section 2 along with
the title page is front matter. Section 2 is numbered ii, iii, iv through
the footer command. Section 2 has no header.
- Consider the instructions themselves as SECTION 3. Section 3 is number
1, 2, 3 also through the footer command. A running header begins on
page 2 with an abbreviated title and date. You can use a specific date
or a general time frame.
|
| To make all
this work, you will need to familiarize yourself with the header/footer
toolbar and learn how to set section breaks. Show
me how to find the toolbar. |

|
| Once this
dialog box appears, you should notice the Number Format drop down
menu at the top and the Page numbering at the bottom. CHANGE THE
PAGE NUMBERING TO "Start at:" and tell it to begin at i, or 1.

- The seventh
button is also important. Here you can check the box for different
first page, set the top and bottom spacing for the header/footer. Notice
two drop-down menus: one deals with section starts; one deals with Preview/Apply
to.

| The other
buttons allow you to move from header to footer, from next header to footer. |

Now that you
are familiar with the Header/Footer toolbar, set three sections breaks.
- One at
the end of the title page-remember counted but not numbered.
- Another
at the end of the Table of Contents, if you have one-remember this is
page ii. You will need to change the Start Page on page setup.
- A final
one at the end of the instructions, if you have an appendix-this section
is numbered 1, 2, 3. If you do not have an appendix, you will have only
two section breaks to give you three sections.
- Under
Insert, choose Next Page Section Break.
