ABOUT
US
Welcome
to the Early Childhood Development (ECD) Program. You have chosen
to learn and to grow in a profession that plays a critical role
in young children's lives. As teachers of children from birth
to age eight, we must be committed to learning about and expertly
capable of offering programs that can significantly impact their
future achievement. We must also grow as professionals to be compelled
to act on behalf of young children, whether in the classroom guiding
their growth and development or in our communities speaking up
for children's rights and on behalf of quality early care and
education for young children.
The curriculum for the Early Childhood Development Program's certificates,
diplomas, and associate degrees are designed to help you become
a committed, capable, and compelled early
care and education professional. The TCTC ECD program follows
the National Association of Education for Young Children's (NAEYC)
standards for the professional development of early childhood
teacher education. Through coursework infused with a variety of
learning experiences, on-site placements for labs in local early
care and public school settings, and interactions with faculty
and community professionals, TCTC's ECD students graduate ready
for careers with young children. Recent graduates work as public
school teacher assistants, teachers or teacher assistants in Head
Start programs, and directors of early care programs.
See the Early
Childhood Development Program Student Handbook for more
