CataCCatalog Description:             This course covers introductory topics and techniques associated with the Internet and Internet communications. Techniques on how to use and access various types of information as well as how to find resources and navigate the Internet are included.

 

Entry-Level Skills:                The student should have:

·        a desire to learn about the Internet and the World Wide Web.

·        the ability to read and follow directions.

·        the ability to write using appropriate business terms, grammar, and spelling.

·        the knowledge to use the Windows operating system to perform basic file operations.

Keyboarding skills would be extremely useful and helpful.

·     Storage media: USB flash drive (recommended) and/or 3.5" 1.44MB diskettes

·     Students who do not possess a personal copy of the Microsoft software used in this course (Windows, Internet Explorer, Notepad, and FrontPage) may use the campus Open Computer Lab to complete coursework.

 

Course Competencies and

Objectives:

 

Upon satisfactory completion of IST 225, the student should be able to:

·        Navigate to specific Web sites and identify valid Internet addresses.

·        Utilize proper search criteria and identify appropriate locations for information retrieval.

·        Prepare, edit, send, receive, reply, save, print, and delete electronic mail messages and attached files.

  • Upload and download files using the Internet.
  • Create, edit, and implement a functional Web site.

There will be five tests during the term. At the end of the term, the final grade is calculated as follows:

Additional Information Pertaining to Grades:

 

Students must earn a minimum grade of ‘C’ in any course used to fulfill graduation requirements of a Computer and Information Technology program.
