Associate Degree Nursing Program

The program of associate degree nursing prepares men and women to function effectively as registered nurses on the health care team. The nursing program integrates nursing theory with courses from the humanities, mathematics, nurse picturebiological and behavioral sciences. The courses within the major include Fundamentals of Nursing, Pharmacologic Basics, Medical-Surgical Nursing, Mental Health Nursing, Pediatric Nursing, Family-Centered Nursing, and a nursing elective. LPN's enrolled in the program start the sequence with Transition Nursing.

The Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program is approved by the State Board of Nursing for South Carolina and accredited by the National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission. Program graduates are eligible to make application to take the National Council Licensing Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN).

Note: Applicants need to be aware that violation of any federal, state, or local drug law or conviction of a felony may preclude licensure as a registered nurse.

REQUIREMENTS FOR CONTINUATION TOWARD THE NURSING DEGREE

  1. A final course grade of "C" or higher in all required general education courses.
  2. Completion of each sequenced nursing course in order with a grade of C or higher.
  3. Nursing courses build on one another and must be taken in a prescribed sequence. A student needing to retake a nursing course will have to wait until that course is offered again. (See program curriculum for course sequence.)
  4. A student may enroll in each nursing course a maximum of two times. If the student is not successful after the second time, the student is withdrawn from the program.
  5. After a failure in or withdrawal from two different nursing courses, the student is withdrawn from the program.
  6. The student must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.00 to continue in the program.
  7. Completion of required nursing courses within three years of entry into the first nursing course must be attained or competency must be demonstrated.
  8. A students must pay for and take all required standardized testing.
  9. A student must have the ability to attend all clinical agencies.
  10. Validation and maintenance of CPR, immunizations and PPD or CXR every 5 years is required.
